ENDANGERED ME109-7
The IUCN declared endangered Martial Eagle is Africa’s largest Eagle
A powerful and highly efficient killing machine and opportunistic by nature, its hunting technique is unique as it is one of the few eagle species known to hunt primarily from a high soar, by stooping on its quarry. Hence its depiction here, in “oils on USC”, in flight, alerted to a prey and about to begin the stoop.
The Martial Eagle is one of the most persecuted bird species in the world and its effects on farm livestock are apparently considerably exaggerated.
There are less than 600 breeding pairs left.
